The Hunger Games is the first novel by American author Suzanne Collins’ well known trilogy. It was published by Scholastic Press in 2008 to be one of our century’s most praised fantasy stories.

The Hunger Games are set up every year in the future country Panem as one of the largest media events. In memory of the destruction of District 13 after an unsuccessful revolt against the capital, two teenagers from every district are elected to participate in the games. When Katniss’ younger sister Prim is chosen, she sees option but taking the place herself in a fight until death.
According to me not comparable to any other fantasy novel, this book is in a class of its own. The author’s way of conveying a future disaster, as well as a miserable love story caught my interest in a way no story has ever done before.

Fantasy is the obvious genre. But don’t get me wrong, it’s a good thing. Unlike the regular future war story it’s got that excellent touch of forbidden love. Katniss and Peeta fighting for their right to be together, no matter the rules of the game, is what makes the plot so great. When Peeta later finds out Katniss faked her feelings for him to get the sponsors, you get even more hooked!

Collins sure knows how to catch the reader’s interest. But after all, do you know what the most wonderful and impressive thing is? It’s that Suzanne Collins’ way of writing is suitable for anyone. No matter the age, no matter the gender, no matter the interest in fantasy, this book will not let you down.
As a book to read in class, it would be absolutely perfect. It’s not hard to read, but it’s got those hidden emotional happenings and descriptions of a perfect, as well as a terrible environment that you can keep on analyzing for ever.

Hands down one of the best books I’ve ever read, and I think that you should also get a taste of Suzanne’s rampant fantasy.

De tre böckerna i trilogin heter på engelska: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire och Mockingjay. På svenska heter böckerna: Hungerspelen, Fatta eld och Revolt.
